Who am I

The picture you see when opening my web page is a transistor radio from the brand Aristona, type SA4145. You can find this radio in my living room, still playing.

This hobby started for me in 1981. I’ve been really active with this hobby ever since. The first shortwave station I’ve ever heard was Radio South Africa, with a friend who had a Kenwood R-1000.

It’s at this moment I found out that worldwide stations were broadcasing on the shortwave. Shortly after that when I discovered the existence of QSL-cards, the beast in me was awakened. The following years I’ve been busy receiving broadcasting stations in the short wave. My main interest was the tropical brand with the Latin-American broadcasting stations. I heard many and collected a lot of QSL cards and letters. I stored the cards and letters with care and I still do to this day.

In the 80s and 90s I possesed several JRC receivers. The 515 was a great MG receiver. I alos had the Drake R7A, together with some other receivers. I learned morse by listening to long wave radio beacons and maritime coast stations in CW. Untill this day this gives me great joy, like more recently with the HAM operators.

Aroumd 2010 I changed to receving signals from HAM operators and became a member of the Veron. Around that time I also received my first SWlistening QSL card. Through the Veron I receive QSL cards, but the more unique stations get a personal letter from me. Collecting QSL cards is my greatest passion. My favorite mode is CW, but I’m also a fan of receiving amateur beacons, especially the 10M. Furthermore, I also like WSPR/FT8. It’s a good way of following the receiving conditions using the modes. The best bands are in my opinion the 160/10/6/4 en 2M.

Most likely I’ll never try getting a license, mainly because listening to me is enjoyable enough.
